Singing to kids is one of the easiest ways to submerge them (and you) in a different language. More importantly, it's fun! Some of my fondest memories are of my mom singing me lullabies and nursery rhymes, and it is so special to have her sing those same lullabies and rhymes to my own daughter, years later. If you are like me, you might find it hard to memorize the various Gujarati songs we have, but don't worry-- VedInk has you covered! Each week we will try to upload the lyrics of a different Gujarati nursery rhyme in both Gujarati and English, along with the translation. This week's rhyme is "Raadhe Raadhe Raadhe".
There are lots of different versions of this, so let us know if you have a different version in your family!
Nursery Rhyme:
રાધે રાધે રાધે!
શિરો પૂરી ખાજે.
શિરો ને તો વાર છે,
પુરી તૈયાર છે.
એક પુરી કાચી,
(kid’s name)ની માસી નાચી!
Transliteration:
Raadhe raadhe raadhe!
Shiro puri khaaje.
Shiro ne to vaar che,
Puri taiyaar che.
Ek puri kaachi,
(kid’s name)ni maasi naachi!
Translation:
Raadhe raadhe raadhe!
Eat shiro and puri.
The shiro is still being made,
but the puri is ready.
One puri is raw,
(kid’s name)’s aunt danced!
